Africa’s first Olympic gold medalist in long jump (7.12m) and Assistant Commissioner of Police Chioma Ajunwa-Opara is set to lunch N6 billion ultra-modern sports development center, says no effort would be spared untill she discovers another golden girl in Nigeria.
Ajunwa made this disclosure in a media chat ahead of her 25th Atlanta’96 Olympic gold medal jump anniversary where she had lined up activities such as Olympic talent hunt for girls in eight states of the federation, lunching of N6 billion ultra-modern sports development center in Owerri Imo State and lastly, the celebration of her silver jubilee anniversary of the Golden jump in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.
The former athlete cum footballer said of her ernerst desire and hope to discover more talented girls that would take her place.
“lt is on record that I’m the only person on planet earth that had played football to the world cup level and also won an Olympic gold medal in athletics.”
She noted that her Foundation was established to pursue and handle projects that would actualise her dream of making talented girls in sports shine like stars to the glory of families and country.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police therefore, appealed to well meaning Nigerians in corporate world, government agencies and private individuals to partner with Chioma Ajunwa-Opara Foundation to actualise these dreams.
She explained that specific dates have not been attached to the activities of the anniversary owing to developments around the country but assured that the foundation planning committee would make it soon. Sports dignitaries were present at the occasion.
