Ex-Aston Villa striker, Gabriel Agbonlahor, has taken a dig at Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp after the German chastised him for his comments on Manchester United.

The Red Devils got hammered 4-0 by less fancied Brentford on Sunday, August 14 and the humiliating defeat sent tongues wagging.

Speaking on talkSPORT after the match, Agbonlahor blasted the entire  Manchester United team and singled out players for criticism.

Erik Ten Hag’s team next play Liverpool, who trashed them twice last season at Old Trafford on Monday night.

In a press conference ahead of the match, Klopp was asked to comment on Agbonlahor’s assessment of   Manchester United and he reminded the former Villa captain that his club once got trashed 6-0 by Liverpool.

He also argued that Brentford was exceptional on the day, wondering how someone who had played football in the past could make very harsh remarks about players.

He said: “It was obviously not a nice week for United after the Brentford game. We forget in these moments how good Brentford are. I watched the first half and I drove home and coincidentally listened to talkSPORT and Gabby Agbonlahor… he lost against us 6-0 in my first year.”

“I couldn’t remember him as a mentality monster on the pitch, but what he said about Manchester United in that show, I was close to calling in. I was close to calling in and telling him you forgot completely you have been a player. It was unbelievable.”

Responding to Klopp’s comment on social media, Agbonlahor hit back at the Reds’ manager.

He took to his Instagram page to share a picture where he was seen celebrating a goal scored against Liverpool in Aston Villa’s 1-0 win at Anfield in 2014.

Agbonlahor captioned the post: “Flashback Friday- mentality to score the winner at Anfield…”

While his intention was perhaps to hit back at Klopp, he forgot that the goal he referenced came against a Brendan Rodgers-managed Liverpool team and not one tortured by the German.
