English Premier League (EPL) club Aston Villa have vowed to take legal action against British pundit and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher over what they described as “unacceptable insults” to the club and its supporters.
The club announced their plan on Friday evening in a statement signed by their chairman, Nassef Sawiris, and shared on X.

Earlier, Carragher, while discussing the issue on the Stick to Football podcast, encouraged Villa manager Unai Emery to consider the prospect of replacing Michael Carrick at Old Trafford.
The 48-year-old Sky Sports pundit went on to argue that there was a hierarchy in football, saying: “Aston Villa will never be Man United.”
“I’m not trying to annoy Villa fans, but there is a chain in football, whether you like it or not,” Carragher said.

He added: “So Real Madrid will take Man United’s best player; they’ll take [Cristiano] Ronaldo. There’s very few above United—the same with Liverpool.”
Doubling down on his earlier statement, Carragher told Villa fans to “shut the fuck up” after facing criticism for suggesting Emery should consider taking the Red Devils’ job.
Reacting, The Villans took exception to his comments and threatened to sue the Liverpool legend.
“Aston Villa will initiate legal action against Jamie Carragher for his unacceptable insults about the club and its fans,” Sawiris said.
The statement further read: “Aston Villa will not allow anyone to stop our ascension in English and European football.”
