Adeleke accuses police of aiding thugs to teargas voters in Modakeke

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has accused the police of aiding thugs to disrupt voting in Modakeke, an allegation denied by the police commissioner supervising the election in the state.
A video from the area shows voters confronting police operatives, accusing them of firing teargas at peaceful voters. The voters claimed the situation allegedly facilitated the carting away of election materials. As of the time of filing this report, voting has stalled in the affected polling units.
Meanwhile, Adeleke, after voting at Ward 9, Sagba Abogunde Polling Unit in Ede, accused the police of aiding thugs to disrupt voting in Modakeke.
He subsequently called for the removal of the Commissioner of Police deployed to oversee the election.
The governor, however, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the early commencement of accreditation and voting at his polling unit.
He urged the commission to sustain the process and ensure that the election is conducted freely and fairly across the state.
Adeleke is seeking another term in office in a closely contested election against All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, Najeem Salaam and other candidates.
Voting is ongoing across Osun’s 30 local government areas, with accreditation and voting expected to continue until 2 p.m. or until the last voter on the queue at each polling unit is accredited and allowed to vote.
