Mascot Ikwechegh, the member representing the Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, recently met with Governor Alex Otti following his defection from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the Labour Party (LP).
The lawmaker made his move to the LP official while speaking with journalists on Tuesday, just four days after resigning from APGA.

However, Ikwechegh—who left APGA alongside several of the party’s executives in Aba—did not disclose the details of his closed-door meeting with the Abia Governor.
Despite this, political analysts believe the development will strengthen the LP’s structure in Aba and across the state.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of APGA in Abia State, Sunday Onukwubiri, reacting to Ikwechegh’s resignation over the weekend, said his office is yet to receive the federal legislator’s formal letter.
He went on to add that the party would remain united, peaceful, and strong despite the exit of any individual.
