Israel says next Iranian Supreme Leader will also be a target for elimination

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has said that whoever Iran’s Assembly of Experts elects as the next Supreme Leader will be a target for elimination.
There are indications that Iran’s Assembly of Experts, made up of senior clerics, is likely to name the hardliner Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the slain Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as the nation’s new supreme leader.
Meanwhile, Mojtaba Khamenei, widely regarded as Iran’s potential next Supreme Leader, may have only days left to live, according to a report by the US based Associated Press citing doctors’ report.
But Israel’s Defence Minister says they would eliminate anyone chosen to replace Khamenei.
“Every leader appointed by the Iranian terror regime to continue and lead the plan to destroy Israel, to threaten the United States and the free world and the countries of the region, and to suppress the Iranian people – will be a target for elimination,” Katz wrote on social media.
Ahead of the vote to pick the next Supreme Leader, the headquarters of the Assembly of Experts has been targeted and destroyed.
Israeli forces targeted the clerics at the symbolic heart of their power on Tuesday by striking the building in Qom where they would normally select a supreme leader. The clerics are expected to now hold their meeting online.
