Como manager Cesc Fàbregas has said he instructed his players to slow down the tempo of the game after going four goals up against Manchester United, adding that he regretted giving the directive.

The Spanish tactician made this known on Wednesday, 21 October, immediately after the Serie A club’s 4–1 demolition of the Red Devils in the UEFA Champions League, while speaking to Sky Sport Italia.

Como were leading 4–0 until added time, when Joshua Zirkzee eventually scored what proved to be a consolation goal for Manchester United.

Nico Paz was the star of the show for Como, scoring a brace and setting up the second goal for Anastasios Douvikas.

The fourth goal for the Italian outfit arrived in the 76th minute after Jacopo Ramón headed in a cross.

Speaking after the comprehensive win, Fàbregas claimed he instructed his players to reduce their intensity after Ramón’s goal.

He, however, lamented making the decision, saying he did not like how his team’s last ten minutes went.

Analysing the encounter, Fàbregas said, “I regret the last ten minutes because I was the one who told the team to slow down the tempo because there’s another match and at 4–0 we could manage things a little.”
