British pundit and former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has reacted to the 4-1 annihilation of the Red Devils in a UEFA Champions League (UCL) clash by Serie A side Como, branding his former team “toothless”.

The Red Devils legend expressed his anger and frustration on Wednesday night in a post he shared on his official X page.

A brace from Nico Paz, alongside goals from Anastasios Douvikas and Jacobo Ramón, gave Como a comfortable win against Man United in the game played at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.

Although Michael Carrick’s side grabbed a late consolation goal from substitute Joshua Zirkzee, it was not enough to pacify angry supporters.

Reacting to the defeat, Ferdinand noted that Man United were “toothless in attack” against the Italian side, adding that the players “have no running power” against Cesc Fàbregas’ men.

He wrote: “Cesc Fàbregas’ Como have made us look like a team who had won a raffle to be in the Champions League.

”At times it looked as though Como had 12 players on the pitch. We were toothless in attack, no running power in the team. An inability to press Como, no patterns in possession.

”A lot of credit has to go to Cesc and the way he has built this team, and then you see the way he has got his ideas into this team.

”Everyone knows their jobs and are dialled in, in and out of possession. They play to teammates under pressure — a great example of trust in one another.

”But that is no excuse for us; we were poor on the night and look like a team on zero confidence right now — so much to do to turn this around… and I haven’t even got onto the injuries! 🤬

”The difference in budgets certainly wasn’t reflected in the difference between the two teams on the pitch!”

Continuing in a separate post, Ferdinand added: “Whatever system you play… If you don’t run, don’t run forward or don’t run back you’re not going to win.”

Following the loss, Man United will now try to bounce back when their next Premier League match takes place against Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Saturday.
