Ex-President Jonathan commissions legacy road, recreational park projects in Bauchi

Bauchi went agog as former President Goodluck Jonathan commissioned 18 township road projects within Bauchi metropolis, valued at about N58 billion.
He also flagged off the construction and remodelling of recreational park projects valued at about ₦4.6 billion.
Speaking at the event, Jonathan said no society can attain sustainable economic growth and development without modern and reliable infrastructure, noting that roads are critical to the development of any state as they connect communities, facilitate commerce, create opportunities and promote inclusive growth.
“Governor Bala Mohammed has consistently demonstrated leadership through tangible improvements in the lives of the people. His administration’s commitment to infrastructure, education, healthcare and human capital development reflects a clear vision for a more prosperous and inclusive Bauchi State,” he said.
Jonathan added that the true essence of governance is measured not by promises but by how it transforms lives through effective service delivery, transparency and accountability, and urged residents to support the government and protect the facilities.
On the recreational parks, Jonathan described public parks as necessities rather than luxuries in modern urban planning, saying such facilities promote healthier living, strengthen communities and create economic opportunities. He expressed hope that residents would take ownership of the parks and protect them after completion.
Earlier, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State said his administration had set a target of constructing not fewer than 5,000km of roads across the state and had completed about 3,000km since assuming office in 2019. He said the road programme was not merely about construction but about opening economic opportunities, improving livelihoods and laying a foundation for sustainable development.
On the parks, Mohammed said the projects were part of his administration’s urban renewal and environmental sustainability programme, designed to provide residents with safe and functional spaces for recreation, relaxation and community interaction.
