Judy Austin drags in-law Rita Edochie to Abuja High Court over alleged Defamation, demands N1bn in damages

Judy Austin, wife of actor Yul Edochie, has filed a defamation lawsuit at the Abuja High Court against her sister-in-law, actress Rita Edochie, and her ex-husband, Obasi Emmanuel.
Judy, an actress, is seeking N1 billion in general damages as compensation for the alleged defamatory statements made against her.
The actress shared the development on her official Instagram page, where she posted a copy of the writ of summons filed against the two defendants. She accompanied the post with the caption, “Enough is enough.”
The lawsuit follows a series of public statements and remarks exchanged between the three parties, particularly concerning Austin’s relationship with Yul Edochie and in relation to her previous marriage.
The suit lists Austin as the claimant, while Rita Edochie and Obasi Emmanuel are named as the defendants.
Among the reliefs sought by Austin from the court is an order directing the defendants to publish a full and unreserved retraction and apology in at least two widely circulated national newspapers, as well as on their social media platforms.
She is also requesting an order directing the Defendants to take down all defamatory statements made against her on all their online platforms
The development has generated significant reactions online, with many Nigerians anticipating the defendants’ responses and the eventual outcome of the case.
