France captain and Real Madrid striker, Kylian Mbappe, has shot ahead in the race for the Golden Boot at this year’s World Cup.
The 27-year-old netted his eighth goal of the competition as Les Bleus defeated Morocco 2-0 in their quarter-final fixture on Thursday evening.
Mbappe had earlier missed an opportunity to put France ahead in the 28th minute when his penalty was parried away by Morocco’s goalkeeper, Yassine Bono.

He, however, made up for his mistake in the 60th minute by curling a sublime effort past the North African shot-stopper.
Ousmane Dembele added a second six minutes later to take the game beyond Morocco and ensure France’s progress into the semi-finals.
With Mbappe’s latest goal, he has overtaken Lionel Messi. While both are currently tied on eight goals, Mbappe leads courtesy of having more assists to his name.
Norway forward, Erling Haaland, who has scored seven times at the tournament, follows closely behind the duo.
