May D recounts alleged mistreatment by P-Square brothers, says ‘they derailed my music career’

P-Square brothers gave me a room Davido couldn’t pass the night in, says May D  

Afropop singer, Akinmayokun Awodumila, popularly known as May D, has spoken about his fallout with his former record label, Square Records that used to be owned by Peter and Paul Okoye of the P-Square fame P-Square.

May D joined Square Records in 2011 but his time with the label was short-lived as he was dropped in August 2012, a decision that he believes derailed his music career.

The ‘Ile Ijo’ singer reflected on his experience with P-Square in the latest episode of The Honest Bunch podcast published on Monday, January 13. According to him, when singer, Davido came to visit him, he was unable to sleep in his room because of the poor state of things there.

“When Davido was running from his dad, he came to my room in P-Square’s house, he was like, ‘May D, is this where you stay? I can’t sleep here oh.’ If I had a room, it would have been cooler” he said

May D further claimed that during his time with the label, he didn’t own a bank account

“It’s only when someone has money that he opens an account,” he said

According to him, there was a time he ranked above Wizkid and Davido in the Nigerian music industry.Travel guide blog

“Then it was Wizkid, David, and I. I was even like bigger. Wetin be ‘Holla at Your Boy’ compared to ‘Soundtrack?” he stated

The 40-year-old singer noted that parting ways with Square Records was the turning point in his career.
