Super Eagles loses two spots in 3 new FIFA ranking

FIFA has officially confirmed that the Super Eagles will drop two places from 28 to 30 when the ranking for April is released Thursday by the World Governing body for football.

The Super Eagles’ drop occasioned by their 2-0 loss to Mali in an international friendly last month. Although the team defeated Ghana 2-1 a few days earlier.

Recall that the Super Eagles soared to 28 last month, their highest ranking since May 2013 when they were also ranked 28th in the world, following their impressive run
in the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, losing 2-1 to the host in the final.

Morocco also dropped from 12th best in the world to 13th with Senegal unchanged from their 17th best ranking last month.

Mali also moved three places up from 47th to 44th while reigning African champions, Cote d’Ivoire retained their 39th best ranking.

Nigeria’s next opponents in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June, South Africa and Benin Republic, as predicted, also have contrasting fortunes.The Bafana dropped from 58 to 59 while the Benin Republic senior national team moved up a step from 98 to 97
