It is no longer news that BET award-winning musician, David Adeleke, a.k.a Davido, recently graduated with a second class degree from the Department of Music, Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, Ogun State.
What this means is simple: out of his busy music schedule, he created time to get proper education. This omo baba olowo (son of a wealthy man) could have just sat at home and wait for an honorary degree, but he became a pioneer music student of the university.
It is no longer out of place to hear an artiste ‘boast’ he had to drop out of school to face his ‘destiny’ in the entertainment industry.
Although very few would say the truth that they were forced out of school because of financial constraint, none will ever be sincere to say they just could not cope with classroom rigours.
There are some artistes who dropped out in their second or third year in ‘lucrative’ departments of either private or public universities.
Whatever the case might be, this set of artistes can still go back to school if they put their mind to it, irrespective of status and age.
They can also do this for the sake of their teeming fans and up-and-coming artistes who may want to believe that it is cool to drop out of school.
No names would be mentioned here, but the affected artistes know themselves. It is not just about receiving awards.
