Flying Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi has said his team have their sights fixed on a seventh AYC triumph in Senegal after Nigeria’s Under-20 team brushed aside Ghana to reach the final.
Goals by Obinna Nwobodo and skipper Musa Muhammed in either half of the match lifted the Flying Eagles to Sunday’s final against either hosts Senegal or Mali.
He said: “The target now is to win the cup after we have qualified for the World Cup. We want to make our great country Nigeria happy and proud by winning a seventh AYC title,” said Awoniyi, who has scored three goals at Senegal 2015.
“The fact that we have already qualified for the World Cup has made it a lot easier for us to now focus on becoming champions again.”
Nigeria have won the AYC six times with the last being in 2011 in South Africa.
In the meantime, the Flying Eagles scooped a fourth CAF Man of the Match Award at the tournament after midfielder Obinna Nwobodo was picked as the best player in the semifinal against Ghana.
Awoniyi (twice) and Ifeanyi Ifeanyi have been the other winners of the top award.
