Nigerian actor and film producer Azubuike Michael Egwu, popularly known as Zuby Michael, has attributed the lack of support for Igbos by Nollywood gatekeepers and executives to their fear of being leapfrogged.
The 41-year-old thespian levelled the allegation while speaking during a recent interview with Broadway TV.
According to Zuby Michael, the movers and shakers of the movie industry are often sceptical of backing Igbo talents because they are afraid they could easily outshine them

He noted that people of the extraction are fast learners who require very little to make it big, adding that if they are not treated well, they will jump ship.
Speaking on the show, the actor said: “Igbo people are fast learners and they are capable of making it big with just a little. You might decide to mentor an Igbo person and what took you 10 years to learn, he will learn it in one year and six months.
“And if you don’t treat him well, he will leave you and start doing the same business you taught him and become your competition. So, people are scared of that.
“Industry executives, including some Igbos, don’t like supporting Igbos because they feel like they will get betrayed by their mentee outshining them.”
