Lugga was returning to the Zamfara State capital, Gusau, from an official engagement when his convoy was ambushed.

Unidentified gunmen launched an attack on the convoy of the Chief of Staff to the Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Mouktar Lugga, on Thursday night, with the attackers narrowly missing their target.
The ambush reportedly occurred along the Funtua–Gusau highway at approximately 6:16 pm near Kucheri, where armed assailants opened fire on Lugga’s vehicle from multiple directions.

It is understood that Lugga was returning to the Zamfara State capital, Gusau, from an official engagement when the convoy ran into the ambush.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who cited intelligence sources, the attackers emerged suddenly from both sides of the road and opened heavy fire on the vehicle conveying the Governor’s aide, his driver, and two other occupants.
In what appeared to be a near-fatal strike, a bullet reportedly pierced the windshield of the vehicle, narrowly missing both Lugga and his driver.
All occupants of the vehicle survived the attack without injury, as the driver managed to steer the vehicle away from the scene and out of danger.
