Jonah Jang alleges Plateau attack was plotted to sabotage Tinubu’s re-election
Former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang has alleged that the Palm Sunday attack in the state was orchestrated by certain individuals to sabotage President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Jang made the claim on Thursday when President Bola Tinubu visited Jos, the Plateau State capital, to sympathise with families of victims of the attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North LGA.
At least 28 people were killed and several others injured when armed men suspected to be bandits attacked the community.
While addressing the affected families, Tinubu said no amount of compensation could make up for their loss.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu directed Minister of Defence Christopher Musa, Chief of Army Staff Waidi Shaibu, and Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu to “unearth and find the killers” of the innocent Nigerians.
The President pledged that the government would do everything possible to ensure justice is served and to provide comfort for the bereaved families.
Jang told Tinubu during the visit that some people were trying to sabotage the upcoming elections but would fail.
“Your Excellency, I think some people want to sabotage these coming elections, and by the grace of God we will not allow them,” Jang said.
The former governor added that Tinubu was “doing a fantastic job” and would be re-elected for another term despite rising opposition.
“Some people think they want to spoil it at this last tail end of the first tenure. By the grace of God, you’ll come back to accomplish the work,” Jang said.
“I look forward, Your Excellency, to coming to Abuja so that we really have a heart-to-heart talk. God bless you, and I wish you a safe journey and a very happy Easter.”
