Yusuf Buhari defeats son of ex-DSS DG to win Katsina APC Rep ticket
Yusuf Buhari, son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has defeated Awwal Daura, son of the former Director-General (DG) of the Department of State Services (DSS) Lawal Daura, in the APC primaries for Daura/Sandamu/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
The Returning Officer for the primary election, Hon. Lawal Garba, handled the collation process and certification of results in line with the procedures guiding the exercise.
According to the certified results, the exercise recorded a total of 35,825 registered voters, with 18,263 accredited voters and 17,832 total votes cast.
The breakdown of results across the three Local Government Areas showed a decisive outcome for Buhari.
In Daura Local Government Area, out of 6,708 valid votes cast, Buhari secured 6,386 votes, while Daura polled 322 votes. In Mai’Adua Local Government Area, Buhari recorded 5,102 votes against Daura’s 137 votes. In Sandamu Local Government Area, Buhari further consolidated his lead with 5,849 votes, while Daura scored 21 votes.
Overall, the Returning Officer declared Buhari as the winner with a total of 17,342 votes, while Daura polled 480 votes, reflecting the outcome of the contest across the constituency.
The exercise reflected the APC’s internal democratic process, including the use of direct primaries in constituencies where consensus was not reached, in line with party guidelines and the Electoral Act.
