Potiskum Local Government Area, Yobe State has embarked on the reconstruction of shoulder on the
Potiskum-Kano federal highway which is expected to curb high rate of vehicle accidents on the road.
This is despite the economic recession in the country. The council Chairman, Mohammed Muss, disclosed this, while conducting newsmen round the project on Thursday. He said, “The repairs became imperative because of the increasing rate of accidents on the very busy road.
“Although this is a federal highway, we have to work on it to save the lives of our people and other road users.”
The chairman also said that the council diversified its revenue generation base to save more funds to execute developmental projects. “The council explored available sources of revenue which were hitherto neglected to generate funds for the council, he said. He further disclosed that the council has set up task force on revenue collection.
He said: “The township roads, drainages and healthcare constitute the basic challenge to the communities in the local government area.
“The council has constructed drainages within the central market and the livestock market to enhance trading in the markets. “The council has purchased three mass transit vehicles and official cars for principal officers of the council for revenue drive and, to enhance productivity.”
According to Mohammed, the council has provided drugs and consumables and generating set to the Potiskum Maternity Clinic.
