Xi Jinping reacts to Trump’s threats, says ‘China not afraid’

Xi boasted that China’s development in over 70 years has never relied on handouts from others but hard work.

Chinese President, Xi Jinping, has finally  reacted to the trade war initiated by United States President, Donald Trump, insisting his country is “not afraid.”

He made the comment on Friday while speaking with Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez in Beijing.

Xi’s remark came shortly after the White House announced that the combined duties imposed by the Donald Trump administration on Chinese goods now total 145 per cent.

Reacting to the development, the Chinese leader said there has never been a winner in trade war, adding that going against the world can only lead to self-isolation.

He added that China’s development in over 70 years has never relied on handouts from others but hard work.

Speaking on state television, CCTV,  Xi said, “There are no winners in a trade war, and going against the world will only lead to self-isolation,” Xi said.

“For over 70 years, China’s development has relied on self-reliance and hard work — never on handouts from others, and it is not afraid of any unjust suppression.”

“Regardless of how the external environment changes, China will remain confident, stay focused, and concentrate on managing its own affairs well.”

The trade war by President Donald Trump has shaken international markets and stoked fears of a global recession.
