Former England international Jack Wilshere has charged Arsenal players to use last season’s defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain as motivation in this year’s UEFA Champions League final against the French champions.

He issued the reminder ahead of the highly anticipated encounter while speaking on TNT Sports (via GOAL).

Arsenal will take on the French Ligue 1 giants in the Champions League final in Budapest on Saturday evening.

Mikel Arteta’s side lost 3-1 on aggregate against PSG in the semi-final stage of the elite European competition last year.

While encouraging the Arsenal players to go for broke in this season’s final, Wilshere reminded them of last year’s heartbreak against PSG.

He then challenged them to turn that disappointment into motivation for revenge against Luis Enrique’s side when both teams clash again.

“Now that the Premier League is over the line, I know that the Premier League was the one. I know that Mikel wanted that. I know that the boys wanted that,” Wilshere said.

He added: “Now you have to go through some tough times and learn from it. I hope that the Champions League semi-final [PSG 3-1 Arsenal] last year hurt them enough that they can go on and use that [against PSG].

“I think when you are on the pitch, and you are playing against your direct opponent, you learn so much about them. And to face them next year, they will be better for that.”
