Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has told those calling former Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal the hero of the Peoples Democratic Party’s 2022 convention, that he is the hero of Nigeria’s democracy because he stopped former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar from becoming the president in 2023.

He made the claim on Thursday while featuring as a guest on Channels Television programme, ‘Politics Today’.

During PDP’s primary election in 2022, Tambuwal who was a presidential aspirant stepped down for Atiku and urged his supporters to vote him.

The decision paved the way for the Adamawa State-born politician to defeat Wike, and emerge as the presidential candidate of the PDP for the 2023 general election.

However, while dismissing claims that Tambuwal was the hero of PDP’s  convention, Wike said Atiku never got 5 percent votes from Rivers State in 2023 and won’t get the same in 2027.

He said, “You see those clowns were calling Tambuwal ‘Hero of convention’ where they broke the party laws.

“But we became the Hero of Democracy by making sure that Atiku lost in the real election.

“He didn’t get 5% in Rivers State in 2023, I can assure you he won’t get 5% again in 2027. His defeat will be resounding….”

While questioning Atiku’s character, the former Rivers State governor noted that the former VP always justifies his defection from one party to another with claims that Nigerians are hungry.

Wike added: “Each time Atiku wants to defect from one party to another, he would say ‘Nigerians are hungry’.

“He was Vice President for 8 years under PDP and he decamped to AC saying Nigerians are hungry.

“He decamped back to PDP, ‘Nigerians are hungry’, he decamped to APC ‘Nigerians are hungry’, he decamped back to PDP ‘Nigerians are hungry’, he left the PDP again and decamped to ADC because ‘Nigerians are hungry’…..imagine such a character.”
