Wike-backed Lagos PDP faction suspends Bode George, 23 others
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has suspended a member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) Bode George and 23 other chieftains over alleged anti-party activities.
Chairman of the Lagos PDP disciplinary committee Kayode Ogunbiyi and the committee’s secretary Desmond Agho announced the suspension in a statement on Friday.
According to the committee, the decision followed a meeting held on Tuesday during which several petitions alleging “anti-party activities and deliberate infractions of the party’s constitution” were considered.
Those affected by the suspension include Aduke Maina, Abimbola Ogunkelu, Laja Adeoye, Tunji Shelle, Sunday Olaifa, Gbenga Adegbesan, Rita Orji, Kofoworola Bucknor, Onikepo Oshodi and Idera Sodipo.
Others are Adedipe Ewenla, Bode Ogundipe, Aminu Suleiman, Roli George, Adetokunbo Pearse, Adeyemi Moyegun, Taiwo Kuye, Setonji Koshoedo, Muritala Ashorobi, Amos Fawole and Olumuyiwa Richard.
The disciplinary committee accused the affected members of associating with rival political parties in a manner it said undermined the interests of the PDP in Lagos State.
It stated that all suspended members would no longer be permitted to participate in party activities within the state or represent the PDP in any official or unofficial capacity for the duration of the suspension.
The committee also warned that legal action could be taken against any suspended member found acting in a manner contrary to the party’s interests in Lagos.
