Where is Tinubu, aides posting his old photos as a cover-up, he says

Atiku Abubakar has urged Nigerians to pray for Bola Tinubu over his health and whereabouts, raising an alarm that old photographs of the President-elect are being posted as new ones by his aides as a cover-up.

Atiku, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lamented through his spokesman Daniel Bwala that Nigerians are not asking about Tinubu’s whereabouts but are focused on the presidential election petitions.

“These unsolicited and unforced errors from Tinubu camp of releasing Tinubu’s old photos and videos suggesting recent events which have always been proved wrong suggest there may be a cover-up as to the whereabouts and state of health of Tinubu,” Bwala wrote in a tweet, according to Daily Post.

“What Tinubu needs from us as patriots are prayers and not the nonsense that the uncoordinated media minions around him continue to chunk out every now and then.

“Members of the opposition parties are not talking about his health or whereabouts but are focused on the election petition.

“But these focus-less media aides around him kept posting old photos and videos to suggest a recent event. Incompetence pro max.”

Tinubu out of Nigeria for three weeks

Tinubu has been out of Nigeria for more than three weeks.

His spokesman Tunde Rahman clarified in a statement on March 22 that the President-elect jetted out on March 21 to Paris and London to “rest” and plan his transition to Aso Rock.

Rahman added he will also travel to Saudi Arabia later for a lesser hajj.

“After a very exhaustive campaign and election season, President-elect, Asíwájú Bola Tinubu, has travelled abroad to rest and plan his transition programme ahead of May 29, 2023 inauguration,” he explained.

“The President-elect left the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja for Europe on Tuesday night.

“[He] decided to take a break after the hectic campaign and election season to rest in Paris and London, preparatory to going to Saudi Arabia for Umrah (Lesser Hajj) and the Ramadan Fasting that begins Thursday [March 23].

“While away, the President-elect will also use the opportunity to plan his transition programme. He is expected back in the country soon.”

PREMIUM TIMES reports that Tinubu’s frequent travels overseas continue to fuel speculations on his health status. He made several unannounced trips to the UK and France before the commencement of campaigns in 2022.

In October 2022, he spent 12 days in the UK. At a point, he had to release a short video clip of him walking out to address the speculations on his health.

Tinubu is also facing legal battles over his victory at the 25 February presidential election.

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ,and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) have both filed separate cases at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal against him.
