We’ll cut your fingers – Borno commissioner threatens APC opponents
Borno State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Sainna Buba, has come under criticism after threatening political opponents with physical retaliation and punishment if they refuse to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Buba made the remarks during a campaign inauguration organised by the Tinubu City Boy Movement, a political support group backing President Bola Tinubu’s administration and his anticipated bid for re-election in 2027.
Addressing supporters at the event, the commissioner used violent imagery while warning critics and opposition figures against challenging the ruling party.
“Whoever shows us a finger, we are ready to cut off his fingers,” Buba stated, adding, “We are now playing politics. Whoever shows us a finger, we will show him a finger… Whoever dares to show us a finger again, we will break his finger.”
The commissioner also appeared to threaten political opponents with exclusion from government benefits, suggesting that access to government patronage would depend on political allegiance.
“The government is our government. Those who follow us will enjoy the honey; if you refuse, then you will be flogged,” he said.
The remarks have triggered concerns over political tolerance and the protection of dissenting voices, particularly with preparations for the 2027 general elections gaining momentum.
Borno State Government had also not issued an official response to the commissioner’s remarks.
The controversy comes five days after Danjuma Shekwolo, Chairman of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, reportedly told residents to either support the APC in the 2027 election or leave the council area.
