WAEC apologises, temporarily withdraws WASSCE 2025 results over technical glitches

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has apologised to candidates and the general public after uncovering technical errors in the recently released results of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 7, by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs at WAEC’s headquarters in Yaba, Lagos, the council acknowledged the issues and explained that they stemmed from new measures introduced to curb examination malpractice. Among the innovations was a method known as paper serialisation, already used by another national examination body, and applied to core subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.
According to the council, a post-release internal review revealed unexpected technical bugs that compromised the accuracy of scores in some results.
To address the problem, WAEC announced a temporary suspension of access to the result checker portal while its technical team works to resolve the glitches. The council assured candidates that the issues would be corrected within 24 hours.
WAEC expressed sincere regret for the inconvenience caused, urging candidates who had already accessed their results to recheck them after the 24-hour window.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our candidates and the public as we work diligently to correct this matter,” the statement read. “WAEC remains steadfast in its mission to uphold excellence, fairness, and transparency in all our assessment processes.”
