Afrobeats star, songwriter and music producer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has countered an X user who noted the role he played in ensuring his uncle, Osun State governor Ademola Adeleke, got re-elected during the state’s recently concluded governorship election.

The ‘Electricity’ hitmaker fired back at the netizen, identified as @dayoisreal, on Monday in a post shared via his official X handle.

Davido’s reaction followed a post by the X user, who sounded like an All Progressives Congress (APC) member, alleging that the ace singer used his influence, networks, music, digital reach and personal credibility to ensure his uncle and Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, was re-elected.

He wrote: “The third defining figure is David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

”Davido did not treat his role as symbolic. He was placed at the centre of youth mobilisation and used his influence, networks, music, digital reach and personal credibility to connect the campaign to a generation.

”He brought artistes, influencers and young voices into the process. Alongside emerging political and professional actors such as Pelumi Olajengbesi, he helped give the campaign a youthful, energetic and culturally resonant face.”

Responding, Davido refuted the assertion, adding that he did not buy anybody for the election and maintained that he stood alone.

He went on to say Nigerian politics is “evil” and that he would not be part of it until it gets better.

Speaking via his verified handle, Davido countered: “I brought no one. No one defended me. I backed my family on my own. I have done my job.

“Nigerian politics is evil and I don’t want to be a part of it till God helps us.”

Governor Adeleke was re-elected as Osun State governor on Sunday after defeating his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside 11 other contenders.

He was declared winner by Nigeria’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), after polling 511,067 votes.
