Vice presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, on Saturday chauffeured his principal Atiku Abubakar to a filling station to refuel, attracting a crowd of onlookers.

In a widely circulated video, Amaechi was seen driving the vehicle while Atiku sat in the front passenger seat.

As people gathered around the vehicle, some called on Amaechi to come out and greet them. During the interaction, the issue of Atiku’s campaign promise to restore the fuel subsidy was raised.

Amaechi told the crowd that an administration led by Atiku would seek to reduce the cost of petrol by lowering production costs.

“We will reduce the cost of producing fuel. We will bring down the production cost, and this will make the price of petrol come down,” Amaechi said.

Atiku later stepped out of the vehicle and waved to the crowd as supporters cheered.

Responding to calls about the subsidy promise, Atiku said in Hausa, “Zan dawo da tallafi insha Allahu,” meaning, “I will bring back the fuel subsidy, by God’s grace.”
