VDM sets conditions, including live broadcast of interview, before honoring police invitation

Popular social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has issued a list of demands to the Nigeria Police Force following the release of its press statement on X.
On August 5, 2026, the Nigeria Police Force released an official statement addressing allegations made by the influencer against Assistant Inspector General of Police (Zone 2) Jimoh Moshood, in relation to the Ajiran murder case.
According to the statement, AIG Moshood has been invited by the Assistant Inspector General of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) to respond to the allegations. The statement also said that VDM had been formally invited to the Force’s headquarters in Abuja on July 30, 2026, to provide evidence to support the claims he made publicly against the senior officer.
In a video posted after the police statement, VDM said he never received the invitation referenced by the police. However, he expressed his willingness to cooperate with the force if a fresh invitation was sent.
To reinforce his stated commitment, VDM’s legal team has released a statement outlining several conditions they believe are necessary to ensure fairness during the interview.
Among the demands is that the interview be broadcast live by one or two accredited media organisations to eliminate the possibility of misinformation or misrepresentation. They also requested the presence of representatives of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), civil society organisations, and VDM’s legal representatives throughout the interview.
According to the statement, these conditions are intended to ensure that the interview is conducted in a manner that is fair, transparent, and capable of inspiring public confidence
