The governor of Ondo State is on his way to have a first hand assessment of the explosion site in his state capital Akure.

The explosion suspected to be a bomb blast happened less than a kilometre to the Akure airport.

Speaking to TheNiche a few minutes ago, a commissioner who pleaded anonymity wondered who could be behind the attack.

Asked who could be after Ondo State, he said: “I don’t know ooo! Maybe this is physical coronavirus. I dont understand.

“It is a tragedy. Well, the governor is on his way to that place now to assess the level of damage and know what this is all about. I will call you later.”

TheNiche had earlier reported that no fewer than 100 residential buildings, school, churches were destroyed by an explosion suspected to be bomb blast in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Saturday morning

The blast which occurred in the early hours of Saturday cut off the ever busy Akure /Owo road while many people were said to be injured.

The incident which happened less than a kilometre to Akure Airport, affected many residents of Eleyowo community, destroying completely a church and a school in the area.

Many people who lived within the church premises were said to be  injured while some were rescued by the people of the community.

The school with boarding facilities was destroyed beyond repair with roofs of all the buildings blown off.

The spot at which the blast happened cut off the road, hindering vehicular movement.
