UCL: Osimhen sets new record after scoring for Galatasaray in 3-2 defeat to Juventus

Osimhen sparked Galatasaray’s fightback and eventual qualification for the UCL Round of 16 after finding the net in extra time.

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has achieved a new historical feat after scoring in Galatasaray’s 3-2 loss to Juventus in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) Round of 16 play-offs in Turin.

The Nigerian international netted the Turkish giants’ first goal at the Juventus Stadium during extra time.

Despite the defeat, Galatasaray qualified for the next round of the tournament on aggregate, while Osimhen took his tally to 13 European goals for the Turkish Süper Lig champions.

With this goal, the 27-year-old surpassed the record of 12 previously held by former Czech international Milan Baroš, becoming the club’s highest-scoring foreign player in European competitions.

Osimhen has so far registered seven goals and two assists in the Champions League this season.

He is currently the joint-fourth top scorer in the competition alongside Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.

Following their aggregate progression, Galatasaray will likely face either Premier League champions Liverpool or North London outfit Tottenham Hotspur.
