Afegbua also traced the recent assassination attempt on Peter Obi in Edo State to possible internal wrangling within the ADC.

The Edo State Commissioner for Information, Kassim Afegbua, has insisted that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s speech last year—asking the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to seek clearance before entering the state—was misinterpreted.
He made this known on Wednesday whilst appearing as a guest on the Channels Television programme, ‘Politics Today’.
While fielding questions during the interview, the Commissioner also stated that the former Anambra State Governor should have informed the state government before entering Edo earlier in the week.
Afegbua was reacting to the recent ‘assassination attempt’ on Peter Obi and other notable chieftains of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State.

In response to the incident, the Commissioner argued that it must have been a product of ongoing internal wrangling within the ADC.
Speaking during the broadcast, Afegbua said: “People misinterpreted what Governor Okpebholo meant when he made the statement in July last year, to the effect that anytime Peter Obi wants to come to Edo, he should please inform the state government.
“Because Obi is a politically exposed person, we would expect him to extend the courtesy of informing the government of the day.
“What happened in Edo should be located within the ambit of the ADC—one factional group of the ADC versus another faction of the ADC.”
