A heavy-duty truck carrying cement veered out of control at the busy Badagry Roundabout in Lagos on Monday, crushing a traffic official and two commercial motorcyclists to death.
The incident was confirmed by the Badagry Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Yusuf Sanni.
According to an eyewitness who was at the scene but requested anonymity, the accident occurred around 9:00 a.m.
He added that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officer was on duty managing traffic when the truck suddenly swerved off its lane.
“The officer was directing vehicles when the truck lost control and ran into him. He died immediately. The two motorcyclists were also hit while waiting for passengers close to the junction,” the witness said.

Residents and commuters described the moment of chaos after the truck reportedly approached the junction at high speed before losing control.
Confirming the incident, the FRSC Badagry Unit Commander attributed the crash to the driver losing control of the vehicle.
He further disclosed that the driver had been arrested and handed over to the police, and the truck involved in the crash had been impounded.
He went on to urge motorists to avoid the area due to the traffic disruption caused by the accident.
“The driver has been taken to Badagry Police Station. The remains of the victims have been deposited at the hospital mortuary,” Sanni stated.
Also speaking on the incident, the Divisional Police Officer of Badagry Police Station, CSP Folajimi Agosile, confirmed the arrest, noting that the driver would be prosecuted once investigations are concluded.
“He is currently in custody and will be arraigned at the Chief Magistrates’ Court after investigations,” Agosile said.
