President Bola Tinubu’s media aide, Daniel Bwala, has slammed a professor of journalism at Kennesaw State University in the United States, Farouq Kperogi, over his recent claim that former First Lady, Aisha Buhari divorced ex-President, Muhammadu Buhari before his death.
He made his feelings about the saga known on Tuesday in a post he shared on his verified X page.
Kperogi made the claim in a social media post, citing unnamed “inside sources.” but his allegation was later debunked by the late president’s family.
After the story was refuted, the professor apologized to the former first lady, stating that he will not contest her rebuttal.
Despite his apology, Bwala condemned the journalist’s earlier assertion and described it as an example of what he called the “lies, blackmail and fake news” plaguing modern journalism.
He also accused Kperogi of spreading misinformation under the guise of journalism without proper verification.
Bwala added that the rise of new media has empowered the public to identify and challenge fake news.
He urged Nigerians not to allow themselves to be manipulated or blackmailed by individuals misusing journalism.
He wrote, “Don’t let anybody hide under the pretext of journalism to blackmail you.”
Bwala further said there’s “nothing new under the heavens.”
