Tinubu seeks Senate confirmation of Enugu Attorney-General, Udeh as minister

Udeh replaced Nnaji, who resigned as the Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology after alleged certificate forgery.

President Bola Tinubu has sent the name of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and incumbent Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State, Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, to the Senate for confirmation as a minister.

​The request was contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and read during plenary on Tuesday.

​Udeh, if confirmed by the Red Chamber, will replace Uche Nnaji, who recently resigned as the Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology amidst allegations of certificate forgery.

​While seeking his confirmation, the president hinged the appointment on Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and sought expeditious consideration by the Senate.

The letter reads: “I am pleased to forward to the Senate the nomination of Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu-Udeh, SAN, for confirmation as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“While I hope that this request will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the Senate, please accept, Distinguished Senate President and Distinguished Senators, the assurances of my highest regards.”

Following the request, the Senate referred the letter to its Committee of the Whole for immediate consideration.
