Tinubu deserves second term like Buhari – Onanuga
By Jeffrey Agbo
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has declared that President Bola Tinubu deserves to serve two terms in office, just like his predecessor, late President Muhammadu Buhari.
Onanuga made this assertion during an interview with Trust Radio on Wednesday, where he also addressed growing criticism from Northern leaders and the Arewa Consultative Forum over alleged marginalisation by the Tinubu administration.
He argued that the South waited patiently during Buhari’s eight-year tenure, and Northern politicians should now allow Tinubu the same opportunity.
“This President is a Nigerian. He deserves the same two terms that Buhari had. Let’s not sacrifice the country for personal ambition,” he said.
Responding to claims that the North is being sidelined in federal appointments and infrastructure projects, Onanuga dismissed the allegations as politically motivated and rooted in personal ambitions.
He described the complaints from the Arewa Consultative Forum as a veiled attack on Southern leadership, insisting that development challenges exist across all regions of the country.
“You need to get your statistics right. It’s all political mischief designed to undermine the President. There are bad roads across the country, not just in the North,” he said.
He pointed out that key national security positions are currently held by Northerners, as evidence of Tinubu’s commitment to inclusivity in appointments.
“The National Security Adviser, Chief of Defence Staff, and the two Defence Ministers are all Northerners,” he noted.
Onanuga also countered claims that the South-West has received disproportionate favours, urging critics to present accurate data rather than resort to sweeping statements.
Highlighting recent progress in security, he cited improvements in parts of Kaduna State as a testament to the administration’s efforts.
“Places like Birnin Gwari and Igabi (in Kaduna) are now safer. I drove from Kaduna to Abuja without incident, a journey that was once unthinkable,” he added.
