The fight for a good society has just begun, and ‘nothing can defeat a people who have had enough of … criminality’, she adds

Former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili has declared the fight for a good society has just begun in a riposte to the judgment of the Supreme Court on Thursday which upheld the election of Bola Tinubu as President in the vote held on February 25.

“The fight for a Good Society has only now started and we know that nothing can defeat a People who have had enough of the invasive Cancer of Corruption and Criminality,” Ezekwesili wrote on X (Twitter), per Daily Post.

“Read the story of the 70s Hong Kong to learn that in the quest for a Good Society, ‘it is never over until a people say it is over’.”

The two main appellants in the case – Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) – both have denounced as unfair the judgment of the Supreme Court which simply copied and pasted that of the Appeal Court delivered on September 6 that majorly adopted technicalities.

The Supreme Court, like the lower court, used legal technicalities to refuse to admit or pronounce on the documentary evidence Atiku presented on two key issues, either of which would have disqualified Tinubu if proven – dual citizenship and certificate forgery.

At the request of Atiku, Chicago State University (CSU) produced Tinubu’s academic records as well as a deposition accompanied with documents, which are now in the public domain, but which the Supreme Court declined to examine.

By exposing Tinubu’s dodgy background, Atiku won a moral victory for himself and for other Nigerians pressing for social justice – in spite of questionable court pronouncement.

For instance, in his form for admission into Southwest College Chicago in 1975, Tinubu filled by hand (not typed, so it could not be seen as a typographical error) that he graduated from Government College Lagos in 1970.

Everyone now knows this is a lie and a crime, because Government College Lagos was not established until 1974, per its website.

So, despite Tinubu’s technical victory in court, he remains burdened by a moral deficit in the eyes of the public – which Ezekwesili alluded to in her post.
