Terror kingpin Turji imposes N50m levy, rubbing in his grip on Nigeria’s failed system

Terror merchant Bello Turji, who dominates the insurgency in parts of the North West, has imposed a N50 million levy on farmers in Zamfara and part of Niger Republic before they can cultivate crops this rainy season.

Security expert Bakatsine posted on his X handle that Turji vowed that farmers can only go “peacefully” to their farms after paying N50 million levy, per DAILY TRUST.

The tax affects residents of Tsalaken Gulbi from Fakai village, Shinkafi Council of Zamfara and extends up to Qaya near the border with Niger Republic.

It has become almost tradition for farmers around troubled areas in the North to pay a sort of safety tax to terrorists before farming and during harvest.

But even after paying the illegal tax, some farmers still lose their lives or farm produce or lose both their lives and farm produce to the criminals who operate with a large dose of impunity.
