Afrobeats singer, songwriter, and record producer Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, has reached another milestone, becoming the first African female artist to secure seven entries on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The Grammy-winning artist achieved the enviable feat after her song ‘What You Need’ made a surprise debut at number 93 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100.

Furthermore, Tems is now tied with her compatriot Burna Boy and the South African group Seether as the African artists with the most Billboard Hot 100 entries, with seven apiece.

In 2022, the 30-year-old singer made history as the first African artist to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with ‘Wait For U’, her collaborative hit with Future and Drake.

Tems is poised to break the tie with Burna Boy and Seether shortly, as J. Cole’s ‘Bunce Road Blues’—which features both her and Future—is expected to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 next week.
