Switzerland, with a hard-earned victory, will now play defending champions Argentina in the quarter-finals on Sunday.

Switzerland defeated South American opposition Colombia on penalties on Tuesday to book their place in the 2026 World Cup quarter-finals.
Néstor Lorenzo’s side had beaten Ghana in the Round of 32, while Murat Yakin’s men saw off another African nation, Algeria, to reach this stage.
After the two sides could not be separated over 120 minutes, the intriguing encounter went into a penalty shootout.

Cucho Hernández and Davinson Sánchez both missed their spot-kicks for Colombia, allowing Switzerland to edge the shootout 4-3.
With this hard-earned victory, Switzerland will now face Argentina in the quarter-finals on Sunday.
