Human rights activist, politician and pro-democracy campaigner, Omoyele Sowore has lambasted President Bola Tinubu’s administration after it announced measures to cushion the effect of the removal of petrol subsidy.

Tinubu recently unveiled a poverty alleviation scheme in which N8,000 will be transferred to 12 million poor households in the country monthly.

According to the president, the money will be given to poor Nigerians as palliative for six months.

The plan was contained in a letter to the House of Representatives over the 800 million dollars loan request of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for the social safety net programme.

Reacting to federal government’s decision to provide palliative care to Nigerians for six months, former student union leader, Sowore mocked the idea and slammed the centre government.

Taking to his social media page, Sowore described Tinubu’s administration as a government of ‘renewed shege’, arguing that it’s on a mission to sustain the hardship currently felt by Nigerians.

He went on to break down what the said palliative amounts to daily and described the idea as a joke taken too far.

The 52-year-old activist also said the new administration has no respect for the citizens of the country, calling for a revolution.

Speaking via his Twitter handle,  Sowore tweeted: “The govt of #RenewedShege! So, @officialABAT is going to provide palliative of N53 per day for 6 months?

“Jokes carried too far! These guys don’t rate Nigerians! #Revolutionnow.”.
