The Kwankwasiyya Movement has claimed that the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) is effectively dead in Kano and beyond following the exit of its 2023 presidential candidate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso.

The movement’s spokesman, Habibu Mohammed, made this assertion on Tuesday during an appearance on Arise Television.

He was responding to Kwankwaso’s recent defection from the NNPP to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to Mohammed, Kwankwaso will wield the same influence for the ADC in Kano as he did for the NNPP, predicting a significant influx of supporters into the party following the former governor’s move.

He went on to extol his qualities, stating that the former governor possesses the ability to lead, provide direction, protect his followers, and turn political fortunes around.

Speaking during the interview, Mohammed said: “Everybody knows that the NNPP is synonymous with Kwankwaso. His departure automatically means that the NNPP is effectively dead in Kano—and perhaps beyond Kano, it may be seen as dead across the nation.

“Just as Kwankwaso was the face of the NNPP in Kano, he will now be seen as the face of the ADC in Kano State; it will be an interesting scenario.

“So many people believe in Kwankwaso and his principles. There will be a massive influx into the ADC.

“I believe, following recent events, it is going to be a very interesting situation in Kano because several others are set to follow him. This is because many believe Kwankwaso is a man of principle who does not meander; he goes straight to the point.

“He is someone who is ready to say it as it is so that all parties understand.

“There are many politicians who know full well that they can align with him, even if they hold different opinions. Because he can lead, provide direction, protect his own, and turn things around, many others are joining.”
