Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has congratulated the people of Owo Kingdom and their paramount ruler, His Imperial Majesty Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, the Olowo of Owo, on the successful hosting of this year’s ‘Igogo’ festival.
He felicitated with the people of the community late on Sunday night in a now-trending post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) page.
Owo, an ancient town in Ondo State, concluded the festival—which usually begins in late August or early September and runs throughout the month—at the weekend.
The annual event typically runs for about 17 days, during which the Olowo, his chiefs, and the people of the town perform cultural rites, including music and royal processions.
Reacting after the town successfully marked this year’s event, Sowore noted that Christian and Muslim celebrations are often better acknowledged than those of their traditional counterparts.
He went on to describe the ‘Igogo’ festival as a “rich, authentic and captivating display of culture and tradition” that he could not miss.
Taking to his verified handle, Sowore wrote: “We never forget to greet Christians and Muslims when they celebrate their religious festivals, so today, let me specially greet the great people of the Owo Kingdom as they celebrate the great cultural Igogo Festival.
