English pundit and former Newcastle United striker, Alan Shearer, has said Arsenal’s defensive solidity and set-piece ability separate them from the other two English Premier League (EPL) title contenders, Liverpool and Manchester City.

He made this known recently while featuring as a guest on The Rest is Football podcast.

Arsenal are currently four points ahead of second-placed Bournemouth, while Man City and Liverpool sit in 5th and 7th positions respectively on the Premier League table.

Apart from this, Mikel Arteta’s men have kept six clean sheets and conceded only three goals this season.

While discussing Arsenal’s strength on the show, Shearer argued that Arsenal had the upper hand because of their “set-piece threat and defensive record.”

He added that their ability to get a win even when they are not playing well also puts them in the driving seat in the title race.

He said, “The huge advantage Arsenal have over Liverpool, Man City, and whoever else thinks they can challenge is the defence and the set-pieces.”

Shearer added, “They are in the driving seat because of their ability to just win a game even when they are not playing well.

“That is a result of the set-pieces and how good they are at the back, and that is why they have got such a clear lead at the top of the Premier League at the moment.”
