According to Odega, despite the industry making waves globally, the Nollywood of his era was far superior to what is obtainable today.

He added that back when he and his contemporaries held sway, the Nigerian film industry produced “unforgettable movies”.

However, he noted that the films on screens nowadays fall below previous standards and are often “bad”.

Speaking on the show, Odega said:
“Back then, one script would give us one unforgettable movie. But now, one script can give you seven bad movies, and that’s not right. Nollywood back then was far better than the Nollywood of today.”

He went on to state that he was one of the pioneers of the industry, stressing that he was already acting long before Nollywood became a global phenomenon.

“I was among the people who made Nollywood. When we started, Nollywood was just a phenomenon. Our organisation used to be called the Nigerian Actors Guild (NAG), before we later changed it to the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN).

“It was after then that Nollywood emerged. So, I am one of the pioneers of Nollywood. I have been in the movie industry for 30 years,” he added.
