Senator accuses Bauchi governor of blackmail

Senator Ali Wakili representing Bauchi South in the National Assembly has accused Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State of inciting the people of the state against members of the National Assembly.

In an interview with journalists  in Bauchi yesterday, Wakili said that the governor had been  blackmailing members of the National Assembly by giving false allegations against them which were coming scandalous.

He said that the governor recently alleged that his grouse with some members of the National Assembly was as result of his refusal to buy exotic cars and houses for them, pointing out that the allegation was aimed at inciting members of the state against them.

He said, “It is very unfortunate and scandalous that this kind of allegation is coming from a chief executive officer of the state that is expected to be circumspect than all of us because whatever he says can trigger a chain of reaction.

“On my own part, I have never discussed the issue of any vehicle with the governor. I have never either alone or in consultation with the party cacus requested for any vehicle. I feel this is his way of blackmail against us.

“Our misunderstanding with the governor hinges on our demand for good governance and that the resources of the state be used for the people of the state,” he said.

Wakili accused the governor of signing a bill that sought the removal of district and ward head in the state without the approval of stakeholders in the state, saying that such a development was debasing the unity of the party in the state.
