Senate sets up committee to oversee Rivers administrator, names Bamidele chairman

The Senate has established an 18-member committee to oversee the activities of the Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.).

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the formation of the committee during Tuesday’s plenary session.

He explained that the initiative aims to enhance transparency and accountability in the governance of Rivers State.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele was appointed as chairman of the committee.

Akpabio emphasised the importance of the committee’s mandate, noting that it plays a crucial role in ensuring effective legislative oversight in the state. He also indicated that the committee’s composition may be revised after further consultations.

He urged the members to begin their oversight functions immediately, highlighting the urgency of the task and reiterating the Senate’s commitment to democratic principles in Rivers State.

The committee members include Senators Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu (South East), Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire (Ondo), Sani Musa, Simon Lalong, Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe (Labour Party), Onyekachi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone, and Mohammed (APC, Jigawa), along with the Clerk of the Senate.
