The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) suffered another significant loss on Tuesday after it’s House of Representatives members from Delta State defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Their defection was made public during plenary by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, who also noted that the Labour Party (LP), also lost two of its members from Enugu State to the PDP.
The six members from Delta State as announced by the Speaker are: Victor Nwokolo, Julius Pondi, Thomas Ereyitomi, Nicholas Mutual, Ukodhiko Jonathan, and Nnamdi Ezechi.
In their individual letters of resignation read by the Speaker, the lawmakers cited unresolved party crisis and parallel leadership in the state and decided to quit after due consultations
Prior to this development, former Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa and his successor, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, had dumped the PDP for the APC.

Oborevwori and Okowa announced their defection during a stakeholders meeting in Asaba, the capital of Delta State.
Following their defections, House of Representatives member from Ideato Federal constituency of Imo State, Ikenga Ugochinyere, said more state governors and lawmakers on the platform of the PDP, are expected to leave the party.
“Two more state governors and 40 lawmakers on the platform of the PDP will soon defect,” he said.
Despite the mounting defections, however, PDP stalwart and former Senate President Bukola Saraki expressed optimism about the party’s future.
He said, “The PDP will be repositioned. Those who want to defect are free to leave,” he said, downplaying the impact of the departures.
