Senate minority whip dumps ADC for NDC

By Ishaya Ibrahim

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suffered another setback with the Senate Minority Whip, Tony Nwoye, decamping to the newly registered Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, read the resignation letter of Nwoye during plenary on Wednesday. He then directed the Clerk of the Senate to update the records accordingly.

In the letter, Mr Nwoye, who represents Anambra North Senatorial District, stated that he had formally resigned from the ADC and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

He explained that internal divisions and multiple litigations at the Federal High Court, including judgements, have adversely affected the party’s formation, cohesion and overall stability.

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and my intention to defect to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

“The decision has become necessary due to internal divisions and the ongoing multiple litigations at the Federal High Court and court judgement affecting the party, which unfortunately affected the creation and stability of the party,” Mr Nwoye said.

The Senate President wished the lawmaker well in his new party.

Mr Nwoye was elected to the Senate in 2023 on the Labour Party ticket but defected to the ADC recently.
